Tazhib & Tash’ir
Mohamad Hosein Naghdi practises tazhib, the Persian art of illumination, and tash’ir, the art of the margins. He has studied both since 2010 under Master Bidabadi and Master Moharrami, and paints in watercolour, gouache and gold leaf.

Gem Barber
Mohamad Hosein Naghdi is a professional barber and the head of Gem Barber, the barbershop he co-owns in the heart of Canberra. He is at his chair there every working day, and his illuminated paintings and his books are on display and for sale in the shop.
The Author
Mohamad Hosein Naghdi credits the customers in his chair with teaching him more about people than any book, and he reads his own audiobook. A barber, an illuminator and a writer: he regards the three as one craft of close attention.
